Yes. The Free plan is free forever, with no time limit and no trial to cancel. It covers up to 15 family members, unlimited connections to other families, 20 album photos, unlimited text and photo posts, direct messages, and a wallpaper for your tree. The optional Family Plan lifts those limits.
FamTree runs as an Android app and as a web app in your browser, which you can install to your home screen. Your tree syncs between them, and the app keeps working offline once it has loaded.
No. Inviting and connecting family members is free and unlimited, on every plan. Each relative gets their own free account.
Tap any empty node on the tree. The + nodes around it let you add a parent, sibling, child or spouse. You can also tap the sibling peek nodes on the left and right edges when they show +.
Drag a parent node downward to move up a generation and see their parents. Drag your own node upward to see your children. Tap the sibling peek nodes at the left and right edges to jump between brothers and sisters, and pinch to zoom in and out.
Yes. FamTree imports and exports GEDCOM (.ged) files, the standard genealogy format used by MyHeritage, Ancestry, FamilySearch, MacFamilyTree and others. Export lives in Settings → Export Family Tree, so your data is never locked in.
Yes. Tap a person's node to open their profile, then tap the photo area to upload from your camera or gallery. You can also add a photo when you first create the member.
Yes. Your tree and posts are private by default and visible only to people you personally invite. We never publish your tree's contents and we do not sell your data or use it for advertising. You can optionally create a public share link, which shows only a summary card — your family name and counts, never members' names, photos or details — and you can revoke it at any time.
Only you, unless you say otherwise. In Settings → Tree Visibility you grant each connected relative view or edit access, and can change or revoke it anytime. Even with edit access, their changes reach you as suggestions to approve — nothing changes in your tree without your say-so.
Yes, and it's free and unlimited. Open a relative's profile and tap the connect icon. Both sides have to agree. Each family keeps its own tree, you control per-member permissions, and either side can disconnect later.
It's optional and only runs when you tap it. Phone numbers from your contacts are sent to our server, converted into a one-way hash, and checked against people who already use FamTree. We show you the matches and discard the numbers — they are never stored, and your contacts' names never leave your phone. See the Privacy Policy for the full detail.
Go to Settings → Account Actions → Delete Account. Our servers then permanently remove your profile, family tree, photos and videos, chats, invites and any public share link, and unlink any connected families. Deletion completes within 30 days and cannot be undone, so export your tree first if you want a copy. Full details, including how to request deletion without the app, are at myfamtree.app/delete-account.
Unlimited tree members, video in posts, chats and albums, every colour theme, a separate wallpaper for each household in your tree, a much larger album allowance, and priority support. It comes as a monthly plan (500 album photos) or an annual plan (1,000 album photos, at a discount). Prices are shown in the app in your local currency.
Premium is purchased inside the FamTree Android app, through Google Play. This website describes premium but doesn't sell it.
Anytime, from your Google Play subscriptions — no questions asked. You keep premium until the end of the period you've already paid for, then return to the Free tier. Refunds are handled by Google Play under its refund policy.
Nothing is deleted. Anything you added beyond the free limits stays in your tree and remains viewable and exportable — you simply can't add more until you upgrade again.
Tap Restore Purchase on the upgrade screen. Your plan is tied to your FamTree account rather than to a phone, so it follows you across sign-outs, new devices and reinstalls. If it still doesn't appear, check you're signed in with the account you purchased on, then contact us.
The Feed shows posts from your family in chronological order. Tap + to post text, photos or video. Mention relatives with @, tag topics with #, react to posts, and look out for "On this day" memories. Stories you post disappear automatically after 24 hours.
Open the Chats tab to message any connected relative directly, one-to-one or in groups. Chats support reactions, read receipts, typing indicators, and photos from your gallery or camera. Video messages are part of the Family Plan.
New messages, activity on your posts, connection and invite updates, and family celebrations such as birthdays and anniversaries. During your first two weeks we may also send one gentle daily reminder to add another relative while your tree is still small; it stops on its own as your tree grows. You can switch push notifications off entirely in Settings.
