Please read these Terms and Conditions carefully before using the FamTree application. By accessing or using the app, you agree to be bound by these terms.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account or using FamTree, you confirm that you are at least 13 years old and agree to these Terms. If you are using FamTree on behalf of an organisation, you agree on their behalf.

2. Description of Service

FamTree is a private family networking application that allows users to build interactive family trees, share posts and photos, and communicate with connected family members. The service is available as a web app (PWA) and Android application.

3. User Accounts

• You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials.
• You must provide accurate information when creating your profile.
• You may not share your account with others or create accounts for other people without their consent.
• You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.

4. User Content

You retain ownership of content you create and share on FamTree (posts, photos, family data). By uploading content, you grant FamTree a limited, non-exclusive licence to store and display it to your connected family members as part of the service.

• You must not upload content that is illegal, harmful, or violates others' privacy.
• You must have the right to upload any photos or personal information about other people.
• Family data you add (names, birthdates, relationships) should be accurate and you are responsible for obtaining consent from living individuals where required.

5. Privacy

Your family data is stored privately in your family group. By default, posts are visible only to connected family members. You control your privacy settings within the app, including per-member visibility for connected families. You may optionally publish a public tree summary link; this page shows aggregate statistics only (such as your family name and member counts, not individual members' details) and can be revoked by you at any time. 6. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Use FamTree for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any regulations.
• Harass, abuse, or harm other users.
• Attempt to gain unauthorised access to other users' family trees or data.
• Upload malicious code, viruses, or harmful content.
• Use the service to send spam or unsolicited communications.

7. Subscriptions and Payments

FamTree offers a free tier and paid premium plans. Premium subscriptions are purchased and processed through Google Play Billing. By subscribing, you agree to Google Play's payment terms. Subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled before the renewal date. Manage or cancel your subscription anytime in Google Play; refunds are handled per Google Play's refund policy.

8. Data and Backups

FamTree uses Firebase (Google Cloud) to store your data with persistent offline caching. While we take reasonable measures to protect your data, we are not liable for data loss due to circumstances beyond our control. We recommend exporting important family information periodically.

9. Termination

You may delete your account at any time from Settings → Account Actions. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms. Upon deletion, an automated server-side process permanently removes your account and associated data — including your family tree, uploaded media, messages, invites, and any public tree link — and unlinks any connected families. Deletion is completed within 30 days, except where retention is required by law, and cannot be undone.

10. Disclaimers

FamTree is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free service. We are not responsible for the accuracy of family data entered by users.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, FamTree and its developers shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service.

12. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of FamTree after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms. We will notify users of significant changes via the app.

13. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United Kingdom. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
